Spotlight Saturday #3: Busted

Happy New Year everybody!

We are a little over a week in to the new year, and shit is already kind of crazy (This is starting to look like 2020 Part 2…). To take your mind off of recent events though, let’s look and see what secret gems Netflix has to offer.

In this installment of Spotlight Saturday, we are exploring murder mysteries and puzzles that will blow your mind. Since Season 3 is also dropping on the January 22, it only seemed fitting to discuss the Netflix original Busted.

Plot

In this Korean variety show, a group of detectives come together and compete for the title of the world’s greatest detectives. While solving puzzles, things go awry, and solving simple puzzles turn into solving murder mysteries. Are these detectives up for the challenge?

Characters

Yoo Jae Suk: The unofficial leader that is also known as the Nation’s MC.

Park Min Young: The smartest and wittiest of the group. She is also the only reason that they solve mysteries sometimes.

Lee Kwang Soo: A troublemaker who knows how to make us laugh.

Kim Jong Min: Not the sharpest tool in the tool box, but he has a good sense of humor.

Ahn Jae Wook: Intelligent but sometimes cowardly in the face of snakes and other things.

Sejeong: The youngest member who also happens to be the most fearless.

Sehun: The athletic and competitive gentleman who is also very handsome.

Reaction

Personally, I am a huge fan of Korean variety shows. I didn’t know what to expect when Netflix initially dropped this show. Anyone who is familiar with Korean variety shows or a fan of Running Man know that anything with Yoo Jae Suk and Lee Kwang Soo in it together is gold.

I’m not a puzzle guru or a mystery fanatic, but I just love laughing at the crazy antics of the cast members on Busted. These people aren’t the smartest people in the world, but they’re pretty damn entertaining. They make the show and mysteries look so fun and challenging too.

The plot of the show I think is what sets this show apart from other variety shows though. You think each episode isn’t connected to each other, but then it all comes together in the end.

I can’t wait for Season 3 because Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger. If you’ve never seen a Korean variety show, this will be a nice one to get your toes wet.

Availability

Go watch seasons 1 & 2 of Busted on Netflix now! You have 2 weeks to binge before Season 3 on the 22nd. This show will blow your mind with its twists and turns. Until next time…
